Our Story
Cross Purposes Productions began as an idea for a stage play entitled “Cross Purposes”. In early 2019, CPP founder, David Alford, sat down to write a play but soon came to realize that it might work better as a screenplay. A draft was soon written and passed around to valued readers and it quickly became apparent that it was a story that warranted production. Never having made a film before, Alford asked a few people in his social circle who had produced a few short films in the past and quickly assembled a team to shoot the short film over a long weekend that August.
“Cross Purposes” was circulated around mostly Christian film festivals for the next ten months racking up awards and honors. So, our team reassembled to try again only this time it would be a full-length feature film. The script for “Found.” was based on an idea for a novel Alford had started several years before and with the help of “Cross Purposes” actor Joseph Stam, the screenplay was completed in early 2020. During the production of “Found.”, Cross Purposes was picked up for distribution, and inquiries were made about “Found.” as a follow-up to the short film. Both projects were released to global distribution three months apart in 2021.
“Cross Purposes” has done well for the limited opportunities that short films are given in the current market, but the feature-length project, “Found.” has seen success in most major Christian film arenas and some secular sites as well. Now having been seen globally by millions of people, “Found.”, has become a visible product known by most folks who follow the Christian film industry.
Once again in 2021, our team geared up again and produced our second feature film “Royal Ashes”. This time we were approached by multiple distribution companies who were interested in distributing the film. It has been signed on and will be released on most major streaming platforms in 2022.
People often ask what the secret is to CPP’s reasonably strong track record so far and the only answer we have is that we are a family. We work hard and try to stay faithful to what God wants us to do. We don’t always get it right, but we keep listening and keep trying. We sometimes disagree, but
mostly we laugh and try not to take ourselves too seriously. Our goal is to be the best storytellers we can be incorporating God’s truth as best as we know it for our audiences.
