Cross Purposes Productions is headed into production on a project based on the students of the White Rose Leaflets, a World War II German uprising against the atrocities of the National Socialist Party that would later come to be known as the Nazis. We are pleased to announce the stellar cast of CPP alums for this film.
The story follows brother and sister duo Hans and Sophie Scholl, who, having been brought up in a family of faith, quickly recognize the evils of an emerging regime. When Hans’s best friend, Alexander Schmorell, enters the picture with his scheme to create an underground resistance, the trio must decide if their beliefs are worth risking their lives for.
Returning to CPP after taking the lead in our second feature-length film, “Royal Ashes,” is Luke Sage as Hans Scholl. Luke had stayed busy since his last project with us, working both on stage and in front of the camera. Taking on the role of a cautious intellectual with a deep history in the Hitler Youth program, Luke will bring the deep conflict of a young man longing to push back against a system that he has been a part of for way too long.
Also returning is Joseph Stam as Alexander Schmorell. After taking a year to write and direct his own film project, “Memoria,” Joseph is back in front of the camera (and behind the camera as well) as a rambunctious and pampered rich kid who longs to make his mark by scheming to undermine one of the greatest deceptions of the 20th century. Energetic, charismatic, and daring, Joseph’s new role is a complete change from his last film, as dark and troubled, Jason Bowden in “Searching for the Elephant”.
And finally, coming back from a long hiatus with CPP is Phoebe Bullen, who will portray Sophie Scholl. Phoebe, who had a cameo in “Found.”, will take on the quick-witted and idealistic younger sister who has enough fight in her for all three of them. Sensitive to all forms of social injustice, Sophie is quick to jump in and right a wrong, sometimes a little too quick, which gets her and those around her into trouble.
Principal photography begins in mid-October with the hope of a completed film by the end of the year. As always, you can follow us on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with details as they emerge.
