Cross Purposes Productions’ newest film “Searching for the Elephant” hits the big screen locally beginning March 28th! Shot last July in and around Saltville, VA, SFTE follows the story of Jason Bowden as he is forced to live on his Grandfather’s ranch on house arrest to avoid doing prison time. That might sound like a light sentence, but Jason didn’t even know his grandfather, Griff, a hermitic Vietnam veteran was still alive. With nothing in common, and no desire to get to know one another, the two must find a way to live alone together and find some kind of family bond before dangerous elements catch up to both of them threatening their lives.
The film features CPP veteran, Joseph Stam, returning as Jason Bowden and legendary local actor, Rick McVey as Griff. Both men give career-defining performances as the troubled multigenerational men with many sneak preview audiences raving about the authenticity and vulnerability that Stam brings to his drug-addicted character. Georgia based – film actress Sharonne Lanier is stellar as Shelley Bowden, Jason’s long-suffering mother and Libby Smallbone (Of the Smallbone family that brought you the Gospel pop supergroup “For King and Country” and Rebecca St. James) round out the cast. Showing off the talented family genes, Libby performs an original song she pinned entitled, “Match my Breathing” in the film. Southwest Virginians and Northeast Tennesseans will recognize a large number of the cameo actors in the story as current and former Barter Theater actors such as Eugene Wolf, Paris Bradstreet, Sean Campos, Nick Koesters, Andrew Livingston, Ben Mackel, Nick Piper, and John Hardy.
“Searching” is CPP’s largest and most ambitious production yet and will join our other films on streaming platforms around the world, but this is a great chance to see it on the big screen. Join us for a premiere party on Thursday March 28th at 7pm. Or you can catch it any day through April 4th at the Legacy theater 14 in Bristol, VA. Click here to order tickets:
